Therapy Services
Therapy does not need to look exactly the same for every person.
Paulina works with children, teens, adults, couples, and families, using a collaborative and trauma-informed approach that is adapted to the individual client. Her work may include EMDR, family systems therapy, emotional regulation strategies, and practical tools for understanding patterns that are creating distress or disconnection.
Paulina offers therapy in both English and Spanish.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a trauma-focused therapy that helps the brain process experiences that may still feel emotionally “stuck.”
People often seek EMDR because something from the past continues to affect the present. This may show up as anxiety, intense emotional reactions, avoidance, intrusive memories, relationship patterns, negative beliefs about yourself, or feeling as though your nervous system reacts before you have time to think.
EMDR does not require you to spend every session repeatedly telling the entire story of what happened.
Instead, therapy focuses on helping the brain process difficult experiences so they can begin to feel more like something that happened in the past rather than something that is still happening now.
Paulina is EMDRIA-trained in EMDR therapy and adapts the process to the age, needs, and developmental level of each client.
EMDR for Kids & Teens
Children and teens can experience trauma and overwhelming stress just as adults do, but it may look very different.
Instead of saying, “I am struggling with a traumatic experience,” a child may become irritable, anxious, withdrawn, angry, fearful, perfectionistic, or unusually reactive.
Teens may experience panic, emotional shutdown, difficulty trusting others, school avoidance, intrusive memories, shame, or intense reactions that seem much bigger than the situation happening in the moment.
EMDR with children and teens is adapted to their developmental level and may involve more creativity, movement, drawing, storytelling, imagery, or shorter periods of processing.
Paulina works with young people experiencing concerns such as:
Trauma and difficult life experiences
Anxiety and fears
Emotional overwhelm
Bullying
Loss and grief
Family changes
School-related stress
Difficult relationships
Negative beliefs about themselves
Experiences that continue to feel upsetting long after they occurred
Parents and caregivers may also be included when appropriate so that children have support outside the therapy room as well.
Therapy for Neurodivergent Clients
Paulina provides neurodivergent-affirming therapy for clients with ADHD, autism, and other differences in the way they experience and interact with the world.
Therapy is not about trying to make someone appear less autistic, less ADHD, or more “normal.”
Instead, the work may focus on helping clients better understand themselves, identify what contributes to overwhelm, develop strategies that fit the way their brain actually works, and reduce shame around traits that may have been misunderstood or criticized.
Therapy may address:
ADHD
Autism
Emotional regulation
Executive functioning
Sensory overwhelm
Masking
Anxiety
Burnout
Social stress
School or work difficulties
Self-esteem
Relationship challenges
Adjusting after a new diagnosis
Paulina also works with parents who are trying to better understand and support a neurodivergent child.
Couples Therapy
Couples often come to therapy because they care about one another but keep getting pulled into the same painful patterns.
Arguments may seem to happen over different topics, while underneath them are familiar feelings of not being heard, not being understood, feeling rejected, feeling criticized, or feeling alone in the relationship.
Couples therapy creates space to slow those patterns down and understand what is actually happening between partners.
Paulina helps couples explore communication, emotional reactions, expectations, past experiences, and the ways each partner tries to protect themselves when conflict arises.
Areas of focus may include:
Communication difficulties
Repeated conflict
Emotional disconnection
Trust
Life transitions
Parenting stress
Differences in needs or expectations
Neurodivergence within relationships
Rebuilding connection after difficult periods
Couples therapy is not about choosing sides. The focus is on understanding the relationship and helping both partners find healthier ways of responding to one another.
Family Therapy
When one member of a family is struggling, the effects are often felt throughout the entire family.
Family therapy can help people better understand one another, improve communication, reduce conflict, and identify patterns that may be keeping everyone stuck.
Paulina may work with parents and children together, parents separately, siblings, or other family members depending on the needs of the situation.
Family therapy may be helpful for:
Parent-child conflict
Communication problems
Neurodivergent family dynamics
Major life transitions
Divorce or separation
Blended families
Emotional regulation difficulties
Behavioral concerns
Family stress
Rebuilding connection
The goal is not to identify one person as “the problem.”
Instead, family therapy looks at how everyone affects one another and what changes may help the family function more effectively as a whole.
Individual Therapy for Adults
Paulina also works with adults who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationships, neurodivergence, emotional overwhelm, or major life changes.
You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
Some clients come because something feels clearly wrong. Others simply recognize that they keep repeating patterns they no longer want to repeat.
Individual therapy can provide a place to understand those patterns, process difficult experiences, and develop new ways of responding to yourself and the people around you.
Anxiety & Emotional Regulation
Anxiety can show up as much more than worry.
It may look like overthinking, irritability, perfectionism, physical tension, avoidance, panic, difficulty sleeping, shutting down, needing constant reassurance, or feeling unable to turn your brain off.
For children and teens, anxiety may also appear as stomachaches, school avoidance, anger, clinginess, difficulty separating from caregivers, or intense emotional reactions.
Therapy can help identify what is driving the anxiety and develop strategies for responding differently.
When past experiences are contributing to present-day anxiety, EMDR may also be incorporated into treatment.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
Trauma does not always come from one dramatic event.
Sometimes it comes from repeated experiences of fear, instability, rejection, bullying, conflict, loss, discrimination, medical experiences, family disruption, or simply spending years feeling misunderstood or unsafe.
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that many behaviors and emotional reactions developed for a reason.
Rather than asking, “What is wrong with you?” the work is often about understanding, “What happened, what did you learn from it, and what does your nervous system still believe it needs to protect you from?”
Therapy in English and Spanish
Paulina provides therapy in both English and Spanish.
For many clients and families, being able to discuss emotions, relationships, parenting, and difficult experiences in the language that feels most natural can make therapy more comfortable and meaningful.
Spanish-speaking individuals, couples, parents, children, and families are welcome.
